Girls basketball - Dream Team: All-area teams

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Klarissa Bell, East Lansing

5-10 senior guard/forward

Averaged 19.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 3.3 steals a game in being named Miss Basketball this season. She shot 50 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free-throw line to lead East Lansing to the Class A state title.

DREAM TEAM

Dena Droste, DeWitt

5-7 junior guard

Droste averaged 16.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, and made 40 3-pointers. She hit 45 percent of her field goal attempts despite shooting many from behind the arc. She made the Class B all-state team and has Division I and II college offers.

Dani Crandall, Eaton Rapids

5-9 senior forward

Crandall averaged 18.3 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.3 steals and a block per game in leading the Greyhounds to their first league title since 1991. She made the Class B all-state team and has signed with Grand Valley State.

Malika Glover, East Lansing

5-4 senior guard

Glover was a four-year varsity player but first-year starter, and averaged 17.5 points, 4.1 assists and 3.1 steals per game – and 20.5 ppg in playoff games. She made the Class A all-state team and committed to sign with Oakland.

Deborah Hoekstra, Eastern

5-9 junior guard

Averaged 20.6 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 4.3 steals and 2.6 blocks per game. She made 52 3-pointers and went over 1,000 points for her career. She made the Class A all-state team and has multiple Division I college offers.

CLASS A ALL-AREA

Emma Holmi, Waverly

5-8 senior guard

Averaged 13.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.6 steals per game in earning all-state honorable mention.

Mandy Johnson, Holt

5-9 junior guard

Averaged 12.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and set school record with 83 steals in making all-CAAC Blue team.

Zakiya Minifee, East Lansing

5-10 senior forward

Averaged 9.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game in earning all-state honorable mention. Committed to Oakland.

Jessica Peatross, Holt

5-7 senior guard

Averaged team highs of 15.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game in earning all-state honorable mention. Signed with Chicago State for golf.

Whitney Turner, Okemos

6-0 senior center

Averaged 12.8 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.4 blocks and 2.9 assists per game in earning all-state honorable mention. Signed with Boston University.

Coach: Doug Harkema, Holt

16th season

Led Rams to 17-8 record and third straight district title, and a win over 22-1 Grand Rapids Christian in the regional semifinal.

Tori Klewicki-McNutt, DeWitt

5-7 senior guard

Averaged 11.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game and made 74 percent of her free-throw attempts in earning all-state honorable mention. Signed with Grand Valley State.

Jena Repichowski, Lansing Catholic

5-8 senior forward

Averaged 14 points per game shooting 45 percent from the floor and 73 from the free-throw line. Made the all-CAAC White team.

Sierra Riker, Portland

5-5 senior guard

Averaged 12.6 points, 2.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game and made 34 3-pointers in earning all-state honorable mention.

Sarah Trierweiler, Portland

6-3 sophomore center

Averaged 8.8 points six rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game with a school record of 58. Made all-CAAC White team.

Coach Ray Kimball, Portland

Sixth season

Led Raiders to a 25-2 record, CAAC White title and second state semifinal berth in three seasons.
