DNJ 2012 ALL-AREA VOLLEYBALL TEAM

FIRST TEAM

Santana Alejandro

Blackman, Sr.

Position: Outside Hitter

Why chosen: Alejandro recorded a team-high 255 kills to lead the Lady Blaze. She also had 19 solo blocks and 186 digs for the Region 4-AAA semifinalist.

Katie Arnette

Oakland, Sr.

Position: Middle Hitter

Why chosen: The Eckerd signee tallied a team-high 375 kills for the Lady Patriots. She had 54 total blocks and 199 digs.

Kirsten Inman

Riverdale, Jr.

Position: Setter

Why chosen: Inman recorded a team-high 1,003 assists in leading the Lady Warriors to the district semifinals. She had 305 service points and 110 aces.

Jacquelyn Leeman

Siegel, Sr.

Position: Libero

Why chosen: Leeman was a senior leader and two-year starter for the District 7-AAA champion Lady Stars. She was an important part to the Lady Stars’ deep run.

Abby Shaw

Riverdale, Sr.

Position: Outside Hitter

Why chosen: The District 7-AAA MVP recorded a team-high 389 kills during the season with 57 blocks and 119 digs. She had 40 service aces.

Tori Simmons

Siegel, So.

Position: Outside Hitter

Why chosen: Simmons was a rare all-around player in the deep Lady Stars lineup. She gave Siegel offensive firepower along with solid defense.

Amanda Worrell

Siegel, Jr.

Position: Middle Hitter

Why chosen: Worrell was a dominating force in the middle for the District 7-AAA champion. She hit a high percentage giving the Lady Stars reliable offense.

Outside Hitter: Carlton Gay, Siegel, Jr.

Middle Hitter: Danielle Ged, Blackman, So.

Outside Hitter: Ashleigh Lozier, Riverdale, Jr.

Outside Hitter: Ashley Tidwell, Eagleville, Jr.

Middle Hitter: DaKyla Wells, Riverdale, Jr.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Kara Leathers, Eagleville High

Why chosen: Leathers, a former Eagleville standout volleyball player, led the Lady Eagles to the Class A state tournament in her fifth season as head coach. The return to state marked Eagleville’s first appearance in 11 years, when Leathers was a standout middle hitter. Eagleville finished 28-16 this season.

Quote: “It’s definitely a year to remember for us. These girls put all the work in. As freshmen and sophomores, they realized their potential. We played all of these tough games to prepare us to meet our goals. All of that preparation has paid off.”
