THE WINNER: Justise Winslow

THE BASICS

School: St. John’s School (Houston, Texas)
Grade: Junior
Position: Forward
Height: 6-foot-6
Weight: 212 pounds

Athletic achievement: He averaged 28.6 points, 15.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.5 blocks per game this past season, leading the Mavericks (26-9) to the Southwest Prep Conference Tournament championship game. Rated the No. 6 recruit in the Class of 2014 by Rivals.com, Winslow was a member of the United States team that won the gold medal at the 2012 FIBA Under-17 World Championships. He scored 1,000 points this season and concluded his junior year with 2,324 points and 1,275 rebounds for his prep basketball career.

Academic excellence: Winslow has maintained a B-plus average as a junior.

Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally as part of a neighborhood beautification project and a literacy-outreach program.

THE PRAISE

“Justise was the best player in the state of Texas this season,” said Wayne Jones, head coach of the Episcopal School of Houston. “Justise led his team in every statistical category, but more importantly he trusted his teammates and made them better, like great players do. He is the closest player to LeBron James I’ve seen on the high school level.”

THE FUTURE: Winslow will be a senior next year.
