Fox 8 Cleveland reports that Rittman (Ohio) junior Nick Andre was kicked off the football team for its final two games and suspended from school for four days for a poem he read aloud in his composition class.
The assignment was to write about something that made him angry. Andre's poem, titled Stupid, was about Rittman's 1-7 football team.
"I felt like it was my right to express what I felt," Andre told Fox 8.
But Rittman principal Nick Evans determined that Andre's poem was "a mean and disrespectful poem about another student and our athletic director/head coach" and amounted to harrassment.
Here's Andre's poem in full:
Non stop passes from best friend to best friend,
Continuously doing what doesn't work,
The inability to separate being a father and a coach,
But yet still the "super star",
Where's my scholarship?
I can drop passes,
And be afraid to take a hit.
That’s top of the line Div. 1 material right there.
If that’s what they wanted,
They definitely got it.
This whole town will be glad when he’s gone.
For anyone who doesn’t understand what I’m saying,
Thanks to Deadspin for bringing this story to our attention.
