Skullcandy launches high school partnership program

Daily Dose: Elite high school basketball teams to wear custom headphones

The Simeon (Chicago) boys basketball team gets a uniform upgrade this season. Players on the three-time defending Illinois State Champion Boys Basketball program will get to wear a sleek blue and gold accessory — custom Skullcandy headphones that match their uniforms.

The deal is part of a new sponsorship program in which the performance lifestyle audio brand will outfit select high school boys and girls basketball teams — including Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) — with headphones customized to match school colors and logos.

Players can wear the headphones throughout the basketball season — away game travel included.

Skullcandy is sweetening the deal by offering headphones to the selected schools’ computer labs and libraries for use by the entire student body.

According to Simeon coach Robert Smith, the school received 50 sets for its computer lab, and 25 pairs were provided each to the boys and girls basketball team.

“It’s great for our program and for our school as a whole,” Smith said.

Students can even cop a pair — schools have the option to sell the custom headphones and keep 100 percent of the proceeds as part of a fundraising effort.
