Incredible foul out grab at Babe Ruth Senior League World Series

The Little League tykes aren’t the only youth baseball players competing for titles right now, with the Babe Ruth Senior League also hosting its World Series simultaneously. As great as some of the highlights from the Little League games have been — yes, we’re looking at you, Mo’ne Davis — none can compete with one foul ball out grabbed by a competitor in the 16-18-year-old tournament.

As brought to USA Today’s attention by Bob’s Blitz, during a Babe Ruth Senior League World Series game between the Columbia Basin Desert Dogs from Central Washington and Team Cape Cod from Massachusetts, Desert Dogs third baseman Austin Murdock made a sprinting run from his position toward the third base dugout, where a Cape Cod batter had launched a silo-high foul ball.

The foul was always going out of play, and Murdock really had no business reaching it. Yet, somehow reach it he did, sending himself flipping head-over-heels over the dugout divider, all while holding on to the ball and then holding it aloft for umpires to see. Needless to say, it was some grab.

Team Cape Cod emerged from the contest victorious, taking a bit of the sheen off Murdock’s sparkling out. Still, when players from both Columbia Basin and Cape Cod look back at the Babe Ruth series years from now, there’s little doubt which play will stick out first in their mind.
