ALMA

Last season: 5th in TVC East

Coach: Laura McCarthy (7th season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Emily Kolb (jr.), Caitlyn Tryon (jr.), Jasmine Bennett (so.), MaKynna Hoskin (sr.), Anna Benitez (jr.)

Outlook: Tryon earned second team all-league and Kolb and Hoskin made all-league honorable mention for the Panthers, who hope to improve on their sixth-place finish in their Division 3 district last season.

CHARLOTTE

Last season: 1st in CAAC Gold

Coach: Yvonne Ridge and Morene McGill (13th season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Ciara Hancock (sr.), Kaylee Brooks (jr.), Harley White (so.), Rayanna Delmello (so.), Kaitilynn Hammond (so.), Brionna Mielke (so.), Amber Palmiteer (so.), Mirannda Sparks (so.), Lizzy Phillips (so.)

Outlook: Hancock and Brooks made honorable mention all-league for the Orioles last year. Charlotte aims to advance for a fourth straight year to regionals, where it took eighth in 2013-14 after finishing third in their Division 2 district. The Orioles will try to extend their league-title streak in the new Interstate 8 Conference, which also includes Parma Jackson County Western and Jackson Northwest from the CAAC Gold as well as Battle Creek Pennfield, Battle Creek Harper Creek, Marshall and Coldwater.

CORUNNA

Last season: 5th in CAAC White

Coach: Savannah Rupple (2nd season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Brandi Wezell (sr.), Sierra Skutt (sr.), Mykala Palmer (jr.), Rylee Thomas (so.), Alyssa Gitchell (so.)

Other contributors: Stevie Sloan (jr.), Sarah Miller (jr.)

Outlook: The Cavaliers hope to improve on a 10th-place finish in their Division 3 district last season. Rupple says Corunna is “lucky to have a nice size team.” She also wants to build the competitive cheer program at Corunna High School.

DEWITT

Last season: 1st in CAAC Red

Coach: Candice Heskitt (7th season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Caroline Deak (sr.), Katie Sweeney (sr.), Marissa Gordon (sr.), Nikki Yabs (sr.), Liz Zunker (jr.), Abby Wassum (jr.), Kailin Greenhoe (jr.), Payton Daggy (jr.), Ashley Wilkinson (jr.), Lexi Garza (jr.), Garce Colarossi (jr.), Hailey Baade (jr.), Mack Lovellette (so.), Hannah Heinritz (so.)

Outlook: Sweeney and Wassum earned second team all-state as the Panthers repeated as fifth-place finishers in the Division 2 state finals after winning their district and regional. Baade joined Sweeney and Wassum as first team all-region, while Deak, Zunker and Greenhoe made second team all-region, and Wilkinson was honorable mention all-league for DeWitt.

EATON RAPIDS

Last season: 4th in CAAC Gold

Coach: Becky Sills and Charlie Herman (1st season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Erin Toodzio (sr.), Emily Olin (sr.), Megan Sills (jr.)

Other contributors: Ashlyn Bailey, Amanda Henderson, Mckayla Tackett, Joy Strathman

Outlook: Olin and Sills are returning first team all-leaguers for the Greyhounds, who are a “young team with so much talent,” according to Sills. They will look to improve on a 10th-place finish in their Division 2 district last season.

FOWLERVILLE

Last season: 5th in CAAC Red

Coach: Alex Drouillard (2nd season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Rachel Tersigni (sr.), Jade Moros (so.), Blaney Bell (so.), Aubrey Killen (jr.), Brooke Underwood (sr.), Mia Whitaker (sr.), Chloe Smith (so.)

Other contributors: Bailie Driver (fr.), Raechelle Bolling (fr.), Alex Frovost (so.), Alissa Wik (so.)

Outlook: The Gladiators return eight varsity athletes, including first-team all-leaguers Bell and Moros. So, an improvement on an eighth-place finish in their Division 2 district in 2013-14 seems likely.

GRAND LEDGE

Last season: 4th in CAAC Red

Coach: Susan Horak (4th season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Alexis Seibold (jr.), Amy Case (jr.), Faith Kulang (so.), Jackie Foreman (so.), Hailey Stroud (so.), Kelly Pierce (sr.)

Other contributors: Dakota Hart (so.), Erica Oneil (so.), Brooke Watson (fr.)

Outlook: Seibold earned second team all-district and all-league for the Comets, who aim to improve on an ninth-place finish in their Division 1 district last season.

HASLETT

Last season: no team

Outlook: Led by third-year varsity players Kach and Bannan, the Vikings return to competition after not fielding a team last season.

ITHACA

Coach: Ashley Carman (2nd year)

Top returning cheerleaders: Brianna Freed (sr.), Brooklyn Goffnett (so.), Angelleya Rose (so.), Danielle Anderson (so.), Ashtyn Pendell (so.), Jordan Smith (so.)

Outlook: Rose earned Division 4 second team all-district, while Goffnett and Anderson made honorable mention for the Yellowjackets, who hope to improve on a fifth-place finish in their Division 4 district last season.

LAKEWOOD

Last season: 1st in CAAC White

Coach: Kim Martin (21st season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Sam Morrison (jr.), Carley Bennett (jr.), Alyssia Sandborn (jr.), Haley VanValkenburg (jr.), Emily Taylor (sr.), Kiersten Christianson (sr.), Kelsey Mauer (jr.), Bailey Livermore (sr.), Heidi Leonard (sr.)

Outlook: Morrison earned Division 3 second team all-region, while Bennett made first team all-district and Sandborn and Taylor were second team all-district. The Vikings aim to again reach at least as far as regionals, where they placed eighth after taking second in their district. With “10 seniors and six very solid juniors,” Martin feels this team has a great shot at qualifying for the state finals.

LANSING CATHOLIC

Last season: 2nd in CAAC White

Coach: Jodi Kramarczyk (20th season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Elizabeth Dennany (sr.), Maria Gonzalez (sr.), Allie McCann (sr.), Olivia St. Germain (sr.), Makenzie Hackbarth (jr.), Hope Lopez (jr.), Gretchen Speckin (jr.)

Other contributor: Tess Moore (fr.)

Outlook: McCann earned all-region honorable mention last season, and Dennany and Gonzalez joined McCann on first team all-district for the Cougars last season. The three also made first team all-league, and Lopez was all-district honorable mention. Lansing Catholic is looking to advance as far as regionals, again, where it took ninth after finishing second in their district.

LESLIE

Last season: no league

Coach: Jean Maiville (20th season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Kelsea Wulff (sr.), Ember McMullen (sr.), Colleen Gilton (sr.), Kayla Kent (sr.)

Outlook: Wulff was selected to the all-district second team for the Blackhawks, who hope to improve on an eight-place finish in their Division 3 district in 2013-14 with what Maiville calls “a big team with a great deal of talent.”

MAPLE VALLEY

Last season: 4th in SMCCC

Coach: Sarah Huissem (3rd season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Daisy Randall (sr.), Iva Weiler (sr.), Tia James (jr.), Breille (jr.), Lyndi Rose (jr.), Auzzie Fuller (so.)

Other contributors: Stace Ellison (fr.), Carie Betz (so.), Elysia Piedrola (jr.)

Outlook: Huissem calls the Lions “a young team with a lot of potential” and “will be a team to watch improve over the season.” That improvement could mean a higher finish in their Division 4 district than sixth place last season.

MASON

Last season: 2nd in CAAC Gold

Coach: Angela Boerkoel (3rd season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Olivia Terry (sr.), Anastasia Most (sr.), Terra Thie (sr.), Samantha Strickland (sr.)

Other contributor: Emily Perleberg (sr.)

Outlook: Terry earned all-district first team, Most was named to the all-district second team, and Strickland was named to the honorable mention all-district team for the Bulldogs in 2013-14. The three also made all-league first team, and Thie was listed as honorable mention. With seven seniors, Mason seems likely to reach as far as regionals after missing advancing by just a place when the Bulldogs came in fifth in a Division 2 district last season.

OVID-ELSIE

Last season: 3rd in TVC East

Coach: Katie Calverley (3rd season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Lizzy Bisson (sr.), Andi Klier (sr.), Courtney Loynes (jr.), BreAnna Deming (jr.), Leah Batora (jr.)

Other contributors: Alicia Grant (fr.), Maddi Baese (fr.)

Outlook: Klier earned all-region first team, Bisson and Loynes were named second team all-region, and Deming and Batora were honorable mention all-region last season. Ovid-Elsie aims to repeat as district champions and qualify for state finals after missing by just a place with a fifth-place finish at regionals in 2013-14.

OWOSSO

Last season: 3rd in CAAC Red

Coach: Trudy Schneider (13th season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Ali Purdy (sr.), Faith Snyder (so.), Mylissa Mackenzie (so.), Kylee Elliott (sr.), Mailey Cornell (so.)

Outlook: Cornell and Mackenzie are returning honorable mention all-leaguers for the Trojans, who hope to improve on a seventh-place finish in their Division 2 district in 2013-14.

PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA

Coach: Staci Myers (9th season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Jilian Jegla (sr.), Kim English (sr.), Hannah Trierweiler (sr.), Marylou Hengesbach (sr.), Sarah Spitzley (sr.), Kelseah Trimmer (sr.)

Outlook: The Pirates look to qualify for the state finals after narrowly missing with a fifth-place finish at regionals last season. They took second in a Division 4 district to advance to regionals. Pewamo-Westphalia returns a veteran-laden team.

PORTLAND

Last season: 3rd in CAAC White

Coach: Mindy Blaschka (3rd season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Emma Richards (sr.), Kaylee Ruddy (jr.), Samantha Fyan (jr.), Hannah Huhn (so.)

Other contributors: Shea Parmalee (jr.), Ashleigh Esch (fr.)

Outlook: The Raiders aim to once more advance to regionals, where they took 12th place after qualifying with a fourth-place finish in their Division 3 district in 2013-14. Portland gets four all-leaguers back, and Parmalee returns from an injury.

ST. JOHNS

Last season: 2nd in CAAC Red

Coach: Jen Brewer (15th season)

Top returning cheerleaders: Rayne Atkinson (sr.), Sarah Ward (sr.), Cheyenne Gidley (jr.), Becka Jones (jr.), Miriah Moore (jr.), Samantha Vance (so.)

Other contributors: Dulcinea Roberts (so.), Jada Miles (so.)

Outlook: With Moore, all-league first team, and Vance, all-league honorable mention, returning, the Redwings look to improve on a sixth-place finish in their Division 2 district.

STOCKBRIDGE

Outlook: The young Warriors hope to improve on an 11th-place finish in their Division 2 district.

WEBBERVILLE
