Both teams — who both lost in the first round of the N2 Group II playoffs — had regular-season finale games cancelled on them because of the mid-week snow storm. Bernards was scheduled to play at Delaware Valley Friday night and Caldwell was scheduled to play at Verona Thanksgiving Day. Both host schools had significant snowfall on their fields, but both were also offered chances to play the game a either their opponent’s field (Bernards) or at a neutral site (Millburn had offered to host the Verona-Caldwell game).
“We were fortunate enough that we had scouted them a litle bit for the playoffs, (North 2 II) we know a little about what they do, but I also called coach (Ken) Trimmer and wanted to make sure they had stuff on us,” said Bernards coach Jon Simoneau.
“I’m really happy about getting a chance to play against a team that actually wants to play against; all I know is that we have a game and we’re happy about it,” said Bernards senior quarterback Tyler Baum, who is likely to play next year at Bates College in Maine. “I kind of understand Delaware Valley’s situation, I know they have a lot of injuries, but I just wish they had given us earlier warning.”
