THE WINNER: Dorian Pickens

Position: Guard
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 190 pounds

Athletic achievement: He averaged 25.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 1.9 assists per game while shooting 62 percent from inside the arc this past season, leading the Pioneers (23-10) to the Division I state final. A two-time First Team All-State selection, Pickens scored a season-high 41 points in Pinnacle’s 71-70, overtime loss to Corona del Sol in the state final.

Academic excellence: Pickens has maintained a 4.19 GPA.

Exemplary character: He has volunteered locally on behalf of the Boys & Girls Club of America, an area homeless shelter and as a youth camp counselor. He has also donated his time to a charity fundraiser walk to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of Arizona.


“Dorian Pickens is a great competitor with amazing offensive skills,” said Daniel Peterson, head coach at Chaparral. “He is an incredible scorer. He was very classy his entire career and willed his team back to the state championship game.”

THE FUTURE: Pickens has signed with Stanford.
