Bishop Gorman is the No. 1 team in Super 25 preseason football rankings

Check out the 2014 Super 25 preseason football rankings here

Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) has dominated the Nevada competition, winning the state title five consecutive seasons, so the Gaels have had to go elsewhere for their toughest competition.

Bishop Gorman, ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports preseason high school football rankings, will open with its first six games against out-of-state foes, including three teams in the Super 25 rankings: No. 19 Servite (Anaheim); No. 23 Bingham (South Jordan, Utah) and No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.).

“Every one of those games, we wanted to play,” Gorman coach Tony Sanchez said. “This might be the best team that I’ve had at Gorman. In some of the good teams we had in the past, like last year, we didn’t have the firepower we do this year.”

That’s a scary thought considering the Gaels lost but two games last season, to eventual Super 25 champion Booker T. Washington (Miami, Fla.) and to Arizona state champion Mountain Pointe (Phoenix).

The Gaels have 11 returning starters, including Aliz’e Jones, considered the consensus No. 1 tight end in the country. He’s not even close to their best-known player, however. Senior wide receiver Cordell Broadus, a recent transfer, is the son of rapper Snoop Dogg.

“Snoop has been fantastic,” Sanchez said. “He has been really good about just letting us coach.”

A few details about the Super 25.

Booker T. Washington starts this season at No. 11, one of 10 returning teams that finished the 2013 season in the Super 25. Besides the Tornadoes and the previously mentioned St. John Bosco, Bishop Gorman, Mountain Pointe and Bingham, the rest are:  No. 4 Allen, Texas; No. 7 Hoover, Ala.; No. 8 Miami (Fla.) Central; No. 9 Mallard Creek (Charlotte); and No. 13 Jenks, Okla.

Florida has the most teams in the rankings with four, led by No. 3 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale). California and Texas each have three teams.

This is the 32nd year for the Super 25, which began only a few weeks after the first USA TODAY was published in 1982.

The big joke is Allen Texas  a team that is allowing opponents at least 40 points.

why don't they come down to fla and play Aquinas and see what happens. I saw them destroy heritage last night. they are an unbeatable nfl producing machine.

@NicholasLee Bishop Gorman is for real and deserve their ranking. Maybe one day they will have  a High School PLay-off with just four teams and then we will find out  that those Texas Teams belong on the bottom.
