Dad attacks son's youth hockey coach after benching

WEST SENECA, NY – A local youth hockey coach was assaulted by the parent of a player on his team after that player was benched during the course of Saturday night's game.

Orchard Park Police say that they responded to 911 calls reporting a fight at Leisure Rinks Hockey Arena in West Seneca at approximately 9:50 PM. Upon arriving and investigating, they determined that Michael Schaefer of Buffalo had attacked his son's coach after the teenager was removed from the game. The coach was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital with an injury to his shoulder.

Schaefer was arrested and charged with 3rd Degree Assault as a result of the incident, and was later released with an appearance ticket to a third party.

Jon Messinger also reports for WGRZ Buffalo.
