DIVISION 7: PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA 34, HUDSON 27

WESTPHALIA — All tied up, and having surrendered 12 straight points to lose its lead, Pewamo-Westphalia (9-2) found a little late-game magic, and rallied to down Hudson 34-27. With 4:11 left in the fourth quarter and the score knotted at 27, Pewamo-Westphalia quarterback Trey Bauer found wide receiver Billy Fandel on 3rd and 10 for a 44-yard touchdown strike. After making the catch toward the sideline, Fandel sprinted the final 10 yards to help the Pirates take back the lead. This time, the defense would hold it. Jared Smith led the PW attack, running for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Smith was largely responsible for the Pirates mounting a 27-15 lead through three quarters. Bauer was just 2-of-4 for 67 yards passing, but his late throw to Fandel secured the win and another week of football in Westphalia. The Pirates advance to host Bridgman in a regional final next Saturday.
