King’s Fork High football coach Joe Jones found a unique way to prove his commitment to his team and family: He had his players play a role in the surprise renewal of his wedding vows.
As reported by the Suffolk News-Herald, Jones renewed his vows with his wife, Sandy, on their 25th wedding anniversary after a recent King’s Fork football practice. Sandy Jones was walked down the aisle by her son, Bryce, a senior on the Suffolk, Virginia-based team, while the rest of the players made an “aisle” and hummed the wedding march.
If the incident sounds a bit hokey, it’s also rather fitting for the Joneses, who first met at a high school football game. In fact, Sandy Jones told the News-Herald that the surprise was “great,” though the elementary school teacher who claims not to have a strong affinity for football insists that a 50th anniversary renewal of vows might not focus on the sport that has been the defining aspect of her husband’s career.
“Next time it might not have anything to do with football,” Sandy Jones told the News-Herald.
