Marcus Mariota practiced with his Hawaii high school squad

Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota is one of the early frontrunners for the 2014 Heisman Trophy. He’s a collegiate superstar and could very well be a first round NFL Draft pick in the near future. So why is he working out with a bunch of high schoolers in Hawaii?

The answer has everything to do with his roots. Hawaii Prep World captured the video of Mariota you see above at a Saint Louis High practice in Hawaii. Mariota attended the school and still feels a deep connection with it. He was also looking for a way to get in a hard workout before heading back to Eugene for preseason training camp at Oregon.

Of course, both of those attributes speak incredibly highly of Mariota. He still believes in being a part of where he came from, and he doesn’t believe in taking days off. That sounds like a worthwhile prospective Heisman winner to us.
