Woodgrove, Loudoun Valley to host breast cancer awareness game

PURCELLVILLE, Va. (WUSA 9) — This basketball season, Loudoun Valley and Woodgrove are using their crosstown rivalry to raise awareness about breast cancer.

Woodgrove will host a varsity basketball double header featuring a raffle and t-shirt sale on Friday. Proceeds of the fundraiser will go to the Loudoun Breast Health Network. The girls play first at 6:00 p.m., followed by the boys’ game at 7:30 p.m.

Linsey Fagan, a Woodgrove senior, suggested the event to Wolverines coach Kevin Copley. She said that he and Vikings coach Kenaymo McFarlene supported her idea.

“[They] agreed it would [be] a good cause to unite our community,” said Fagan.

Tune in to WUSA 9 on Friday night during the 11 p.m. sportscast for highlights from the girls’ match-up.
