12th-ranked New Albany wins Ultra Ankle Challenge

Bulldogs top Floyd in final for ninth straight win

Class 4A No. 12 New Albany topped No. 14 Floyd Central Saturday in two sets (25-22, 25-21) to avenge its loss to the Highlanders a week ago and capture a first-place finish in the Bulldogs’ Ultra Ankle Challenge tournament.

The Bulldogs, fresh off a five-set win over No. 6 Columbus East Thursday, improved to 18-2 overall Saturday with wins over Jeffersonville (25-17, 25-16), Columbus North (25-21, 25-13) and 3A No. 17 Jasper (25-10, 25-19) in pool play before the win over Floyd Central in the final. New Albany (4-1 Hoosier Hills) has won nine straight matches.

Junior outside hitter Allyson Cathey, a WKU commit, totaled 53 kills, 18 kills and five blocks on the day. Senior outside hitter Maddy Weber tallied 24 kills, 18 digs and six aces while senior Sadie Meyer recorded 81 assists, nine kills, nine aces and four blocks.

Floyd Central (12-8, 3-0) turned in wins over 3A No. 5 Silver Creek (18-25, 25-21, 15-6), 4A No. 18 Castle (25-17, 25-20) and Brownstown (25-20, 25-16) in pool play.
