It didn’t take long for LSU’s official announcement that Ed Orgeron was the new head full-time head football coach for the move to pay dividends on the recruiting trail.

On Sunday, 2018 four-star safety/wide receiver prospect and Texas native Caden Sterns committed to LSU, choosing the Tigers over the Longhorns, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Michigan, UCLA and others. He made his decision on Twitter (where else?) calling LSU his dream school and making his decision more than a year before his own class’ National Signing Day.

The best stat to support Sterns’ star power? He had three interceptions in his recently-completed junior season … and all were returned for touchdowns.

Sterns is a star for Cibolo Steele in the San Antonio area, which has previously produced great college players including former Texas running back Malcolm Brown. Yet, for Sterns the draw was in Baton Rouge, and an offer from the Tigers and persistent recruiting from Orgeron and his staff, even when they were on an interim basis, convinced the teen that he found his next home.

Naturally, there’s plenty of time for Sterns to change his mind, but he sounds pretty set on his decision, and it’s hard to fault his logic given his youthful passion for the Tigers.
