Aaron Beavers is no longer Lincoln High School’s head football coach, Sioux Falls School District activities director Mark Meile confirmed to Argus Leader Media on Thursday.
Beavers entered his 14th season as Lincoln’s head coach in 2016. The Patriots are 2-2 heading into Friday’s game at Aberdeen Central and area coming off a 27-7 win against Brookings. Lincoln has suffered the consequences of an overall lack of number and depth in the past two years after consecutive state championships in 2013 and 2014, though, and the Patriots lost 34-16 to Washington and 49-7 to Roosevelt in the second and third weeks of the season. Lincoln finished 5-5 in 2015.
Defensive coordinator Brian Bechard has been promoted to head coach, per the South Dakota High School Athletic Association’s website. Beavers’ career record at Lincoln stands at 136-59. Messages to Beavers and Bechard were not immediately returned.
