This is getting out of control.
Through four weeks, the USA TODAY Super 25 No. 3 Mater Dei Monarchs are 4-0. They have won games by 49, 63, 48 and 56 points, respectively. Perhaps even more impressively, the Monarchs have yielded 14 points … all season.
Clearly, this is not a team to take lightly.
The latest SoCal victim was Upland, which fell behind 56-0 at halftime and could never quite claw its way back into the contest in even the smallest way en route to a 62-7 loss. Osiris St. Brown scored a pair of first half touchdowns for Mater Dei, with brother Amon Ra St. Brown adding another.
Not that it particularly mattered who was scoring the touchdowns on Friday. They were all coming, and there wasn’t any way Upland was going to stop them.
Next up for Mater Dei is Edison, a fellow undefeated squad which could at least present more of a challenge. Based on the way the Monarchs are playing, it’s hard for everyone not to already start peeking up ahead the schedule to a showdown with No. 10 St. John Bosco in October. At long last, that should be a major test for a Mater Dei squad which looks more and more impressive every week.
