In an interesting twist, five-star linebacker Baron Browning has delayed his college announcement that was scheduled for Tuesday, saying he needs more time.

Browning, an Army All-American from Kennedale (Texas), is an early enrollee so a decision will need to come soon with about six weeks or so until he begins college.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Browning is ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 2 outside linebacker and the No. 3 player in Texas.

Browning has taken all five of his official visits: Alabama, UCLA, Florida State, Michigan and finished with Ohio State last weekend. His final six also includes TCU.

The immediate was that this might open the door for Texas and new coach Tom Herman to at least get a chance to make their case to him.

Alabama commit VanDarius Cowan was among those supporting Browning’s decision to delay.
