NORTH BUNCOMBE (0-5) at ENKA (1-4), 7 p.m.
Last week: North Buncombe lost to Mitchell, 49-17; Enka lost to Brevard, 52-20.
Last year: North Buncombe beat Enka, 45-14.
Notes: Everyone gets a clean slate for the start of conference play. Believe that Noah Lisenbee (401 yards, five touchdowns) and North Buncombe are taking that to heart after just the program’s third 0-5 start since 1987. Lisenbee is averaging a respectable 4.7 yards per carry and has dealt with three different quarterbacks this season – Connor Davis (158 yards and no touchdowns with four interceptions) and Kaden Higgins (129 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions) split time last Friday under center. Blake Mathews (18 receptions for 199 yards and one touchdown) and Ethan Green (five receptions for 54 yards) power the receiving corps. Dakota Vosburg (6.0 tackles per game) has twice as many defensive stops (30) as the next-highest Black Hawks defender. Enka and Avery Holbrook (601 passing yards, 225 rushing yards and eight combined touchdowns) are bidding for their first home win since an August 2015 game versus Owen. Holbrook leads his team in passing and rushing, with Austin Clark (179 yards, one touchdown) and Chase Bennett (109 receiving yards, 101 rushing yards and one combined touchdown) providing ground support. Donyelle Gaines (12 receptions for 188 yards) and Seth Phillips (nine receptions for 72 yards) have also made their presence known as receivers. North Buncombe holds a 30-26-1 advantage in this all-time series. Thursday’s game will be broadcast live by WMYA-TV (40).
Pick: Enka by 1.
