Over 70 high school cross country teams were in Dickson this past Saturday, as Buckner Park was the sight of the MSCCA Championships.
“It was the first time it’s been in Dickson, and we were fortunate enough to host it this year,” said Dickson County coach Eric Hickerson.
“There were close to 5,000 people who came to town as far as runners, parents and spectators. By all accounts, it was a huge success.”
It was a tough day for some of the local runners. However, there were a few that stood out and had positive results.
Creek Wood’s Caleb Allen placed 12th in the Boys A-AA & DII 5,000 meter race with time of 18:29.83.
Dickson County’s Allie Potter finished 36th with a time of 22:37.21.
Central Magnet won the boys overall in A-AA & DII with 43 points to it’s name and two runners, Fuji Anday and Jordan Shirley, place in the top two. Brentwood won in AAA with 40 points and three runners in the top three.
In the girls division, Central Magnet also came away with first-place honors in A-AA & DII with a score of 29 and four runners place in the top 10. Ravenwood won girls AAA with 47 points and three top-10 runners.
Hickerson believes that because of how successful the event, it will be making an annual return to Dickson in the near future.
“It was a really big event for the city,” said Hickerson.
“Dickson won as a city. The help we got for putting on the race was top notch. Every one that helped out did a phenomenal job.”
Dickson County will compete next in the TSSAA regionals Oct. 27 at Steeplechase in Nashville.
