A Monterey (Calif.) High School assistant football coach and campus monitor was arrested Monday for allegedly having sex with a minor, according to Central Coast News KION.
The 30-year-old Love is being charged with several violations, including sex with a minor. Detectives were tipped off by the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. Love has only been employed by the school since August.
The MPUSD issued this statement:
“The safety and well-being of students and staff are high priorities of Monterey High School and the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. Monterey High and the district were notified by a student about a serious and sensitive situation pertaining to an MPUSD employee. The district took swift action and notified Monterey Police Department. Additionally, the District released the probationary employee. School officials continue to cooperate with law enforcement during this ongoing investigation, and students and staff are safe on campus. All faculty and staff in MPUSD go through a background check, which includes the Department of Justice fingerprinting, prior to hiring and interacting with students.”
Per the KION story, detectives are concerned there may be more victims.
