Collegiate, Holy Cross headed to All 'A' Classic state tourney

The Collegiate and Holy Cross boys soccer teams will represent Louisville this weekend in the All “A” Classic state tournament at Capital View Park in Frankfort, Kentucky.

Boys and girls quarterfinals and semifinals are scheduled for Saturday. The finals are set for Sunday, with the girls playing at 11 a.m. and the boys at 1 p.m.

All “A” events are limited to the smallest 120 high schools in Kentucky, based on enrollments in grades 9-12.

Collegiate and Holy Cross are trying to bring the boys trophy back to Louisville for the third straight season, as the Titans won the title in 2014 and Kentucky Country Day captured the championship last year.

Collegiate (12-1-1) – ranked No. 5 in the state – is the only Top 25 team in the field and will face Clinton County (8-6) at 1 p.m. Saturday in a quarterfinal. Holy Cross (4-8) will face Newport Central Catholic (9-4) in another quarterfinal at 1 p.m. Saturday.

No. 13 Newport Central Catholic is the defending girls champion and leads a loaded field that also includes No. 14 Owensboro Catholic, No. 15 Murray, No. 16 Bethlehem and No. 23 Lexington Christian.
