Corsicana (Texas) ties national record with fifth overtime game of season

Corsicana (Texas) apparently doesn’t mind doing a little extra when it comes to getting wins.

The Tigers set a Texas record and equaled the national record with their fifth overtime game of the season Friday night — and more amazingly — they have won them all. That includes Friday’s 21-20 overtime victory against Lindale.

Corsicana is 5-3 on the season — 5-0 in overtime games and 0-3 in games that end in regulation.

“I’ll play overtime all the time if we can win, but I would really like to win a game in regulation,” coach Steve Hoffman told the Corsicana Daily Sun. “It’s fun to win overtime, and it feels great to be 3-0 (in the district). It’s like five overtimes, believe it or not, it happened.

“But it’s making me old. I used to have red hair. Now its grey.”

According to the National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations record book, three other teams have played five overtime games in a season: Rogersville Lauderdale County (Ala.) in 1986, Tremont (Ill.) in 1984 and Lake Linden-Hubbell (Mich.) in 1976.
