District soccer: Lakeview, Marshall win, BCC falls

Lakeview moves on to Division 1 district semi-finals, Marshall does the same in Division 2

The Michigan High School Athletic Association boys soccer state tournament continued Tuesday, as four local teams were in action. Lakeview and Marshall both win to advance to the district semifinals, while Battle Creek Central and Harper Creek’s season ended.

DIVISION 3 AT CHARLOTTE

MARSHALL 3, EATON RAPIDS 0: Marshall advances to the district semifinal after goalkeeper Kurt Kraushaar earned another shutout. Matt Terrry, Brett Swaton and Cody Clapper all scored for the Redhawks, while Clapper, Jeremy Luciani and Noah Coppo picked up the assists.

The semifinal match-up is an Interstate Eight Conference pairing, as Marshall and Coldwater will face each other for the third time this season (Coldwater 2-0), on Thursday.

STURGIS 3, BATTLE CREEK CENTRAL 1: With the loss, the Bearcats’ season came to an end. Sturgis advanced to the district semifinal and will play district host Charlotte.

CHARLOTTE 3, HARPER CREEK 0: Harper Creek’s season is now over, after losing to host team, Charlotte. Charlotte will face Sturgis in the semifinals.

DIVISION 1 AT OKEMOS

LAKEVIEW 4, HOLT 2: The Spartans advanced to the semifinals, after doubling up Holt in the first round. Lakeview will play either Portage Northern or Lansing Everett in the semifinal on Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL

(AT) ATHENS 3, READING 0: Athens is now 3-3 in the Big Eight Conference, after beating Reading 25-11, 25-11 and 25-9. Tayler Eutsey led the way for the Indians as she had three aces, 13 kills and eight digs; Rachel Nobach added seven aces, seven kills and 14 digs.
