It’s been a rough few weeks around the Heath football program in Ohio.
First, the month of November started with the team’s stunning elimination in the first round of the Ohio Division IV playoffs after a 10-0 regular season. Now, just more than three weeks later, the bulldog that served as the football team’s live mascot has been killed in a tragic house fire.
As reported by Ohio NBC affiliate WCMH, the Heath Fire Department announced the lone casualty of a local house fire was a family bulldog who was caught in the house at the time of the fire early on Friday morning. That bulldog happened to be the mascot for the football Bulldogs, who now will have to find a replacement for the 2017 season.
While no definite conclusions have been reached, an official with the Heath Fire Department said it’s believed that the fire began in the basement and spread upstairs, though the house was not completely burned down during the incident.
