SEBRING- Estero High School sophomore golfer Kim Egozi had a narrow miss falling just short of qualifying for the 2A state tournament a year ago.

This year, Egozi made sure she had a ticket to the 2A championships at Mission Inn and Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida by shooting an 81 to take home 2A-7 medalist honors at Golf Hammock in Sebring on Tuesday.

“Kim is very excited to go to states. We had a good shot to go as a team but it just wasn’t our day.” Estero head coach Norm Heyboer said.

Estero finished third with a 401 total behind Barron Collier and Naples. The Cougars shot a 353 to win the regional, and the Golden Eagles finished second with a 390.

Kelli Kragh shot an 87 and fell short in grabbing an individual spot for states by two shots.

“I am extremely proud of my whole team. The course was hard for all of the players as witnessed by the scores. Kim battled all day and took it one shot at a time which is all you can do.” said Heyboer.

The 2A championships will take place on November 1-2 (Tuesday-Wednesday) at Mission Inn and Resort.
