Fires postpone Galena-Manogue football, region tennis

Some high school sports events in south Reno and the Lake Tahoe area have been affected by the Little Valley Fire and Emerald Fire, according to Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association assistant director Donnie Nelson.

The Bishop Manogue at Galena football game has been postponed to Saturday at 7 p.m., Nelson said Friday morning. Carson and Damonte Ranch are still expected to play Friday night (7 p.m.) at Damonte Ranch, despite nearby Depoali Middle School being used as an evacuation center.

Other football games in the area are expected to be played as scheduled, Nelson said.

The Northern Region Class 4A and 3A tennis tournaments have also been affected by the fires. The 4A boys and girls individual tournaments at the Caughlin Club in Reno have been postponed by one day and will resume their schedule Saturday. The 3A individual tournaments in Truckee were postponed Friday and will be moved to the Plumas Courts in Reno on Saturday.

In an afternoon statement, the NIAA said that all other Friday events were expected to be played as scheduled.
