Fair Park coach Cherise Sims, a former standout at BTW, had her jersey (No. 32) retired by the school on Tuesday night following her teams’ game with the Lady Lions.

Sims starred for BTW from 1995-99 while earning a scholarship to Southern University in Baton Rouge where she played four seasons.

“It really means a lot to me to join people like Pam Thomas and Mary Mourning, who won back-to-back-to-back state titles during their playing days,” Sims said. “They set the standard in Lady Lions’ basketball history.”

Sims was a four-time All-District and two-time Times All-City player, while earning All-State accolades her senior year. She participated in the Louisiana High School All-Star game at LSU following her senior campaign. She was the all-time 3-point scorer in Southern history until recently and is now second all-time.
