VERONA — Fort Defiance upset Harrisonburg Wednesday in a cross country meet at Mill Place Park.
The Indians placed four runners in the top seven, led by Fisher Wheeler who captured third place with a time of 18:56.90. He was followed by Fort teammates Ben Harlow in fifth (19:32.31), Brandon Barker in sixth (19:40.20) and Ben Smoker in seventh (19:49.84). Clayton Michael rounded out the scoring for Fort with an 11th-place finish in 20:13.31.
Fort won the meet with a team low 32 points, beating out Harrisonburg with 40. Spotswood finished third with 59 points. Harrisonburg’s Mekonin Bnerbe, won the individual honors with a time of 18:26.16
Harrisonburg won the girls race with 34 points, while Spotswood was second with 44 points and Fort finished third with 48 points. Harrisonburg’s Hannah Miller finished first overall with a time of 22:53.65.
Fort was led by third-place finisher Carrie Wright (23:46.62) and fourth-place finisher Jillian Hammond (23:49.57). Fort’s Hunter Lawson finished sixth overall in 24:15.84.
