Four players who won gold medals last year will lead the USA Baseball 18U National Team in the COPABE Pan American “AAA” Championships in Monterrey, Mexico.
The tournament begins Sept. 30 and runs through Oct. 9.
Hagen Danner (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Hunter Greene (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.), Nick Pratto (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Jordan Butler (Odessa, Fla.) were members of the 18U National Team at the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 World Cup in Japan.
Four other USA Baseball alumni are on the roster: Nick Allen (San Diego, Calif.), who was on the 2013 15U National Team, and 2014 15U National Team members Royce Lewis (Aliso Viejo, Calif.), Brice Turang (Corona, Calif.), and Ryan Vilade (Stillwater, Okla.).
Eight states are represented on the 2016 roster led by California with eight and Florida with five.
Glenn Cecchini is the 18U National Team manager for the second consecutive year. He was named the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Baseball Coach of the Year last spring at Barbe in Lake Charles, La.
“We have four players from last year’s team, and they know that feeling of winning a gold medal,” Cecchini said in a news release. “They stood on that podium in Japan in front of over 20,000 people. In baseball, that was the best day of my life. To be able to represent your country and the game that we love, it doesn’t get any better than that.”
