BURNSVILLE – The Cougars (4-0) had five scoring plays of 55 yards or longer and Trey Robinson was involved in two of them.

Robinson threw a 67-yard scoring pass to Cole Burleton and also ran 93 yards for a score.

The other big plays were an 86-yard kickoff return by Justin Keener; 75-yard run by Junior Denton; and a 55-yard interception return by Dathan Robinson.

NEWLAND – Christian Hicks and Brett Smith hooked up for a 1-yard touchdown pass with 11 seconds to go and Avery County got its first win.

Hicks completed seven of his 15 attempts for 91 yards and one touchdown. He also scored on a 44-yarrd quarterback keeper early in the second half.

The Vikings (1-3) got a team-high five receptions for 64 yards from Brett Smith and 94 rushing yards and a touchdown from Sam McCollum. Ethan Johnson added a rushing touchdown. Steven Sanchez returned a punt 54 yards for a touchdown and made five extra points.
