CHARLOTTESVILLE – Grace Christian picked up its second win of the season Saturday night, beating the Brunswick Academy Vikings 31-12 in a game played at St. Anne’s-Belfield.
It was senior night for the Warriors. Seniors Thomas Musselman, Austin Mayo and Nick Steele all had touchdowns on the night. The Warriors played a solid game on both sides of the ball, and the running game proved to be too much for Brunswick.
Brunswick Academy recovered the ball on an onside kick during the opening kickoff of the game. The Vikings then marched down the field to score the first touchdown. They were not successful on the two-point conversion.
It was mostly Grace Christian after that, however. The Warriors got their first touchdown in the second quarter when Thomas Musselman ran it in from the 14-yard line.
Later in the quarter, Warriors’ wide receiver KShawn McCarthy took a handoff on a reverse play and ran it 40 yards for a touchdown. Grace lead at halftime 12-6.
Grace scored again in the third quarter when Tanner Walker ran the ball 35 yards for a TD. In the fourth quarter safety Austin Mayo intercepted a Vikings’ pass and returned it 75 yards for a score. Brunswick then pushed the ball down the field for its final touchdown. Grace scored the last touchdown of the game when Nick Steele ran down the middle from 36 yards out.
The Warriors were led on defense by Michael Jones, who had a team high 22 tackles on the night.
