High school sports became one of the first things impacted by Hurricane Matthew with the cancellation of weekend events.
Eau Gallie’s home game against Holy Trinity was moved to Wednesday early on Tuesday, and later it was postponed to Monday when Brevard Schools officials decided to cancel extracurricular events for the rest of the week. Eau Gallie High is also a shelter and could receive evacuated residents.
The Commodores and Tigers will meet at Eau Gallie at 6 p.m. on Monday.
Astronaut was the second school to move a Friday game. Like Eau Gallie, it was also homecoming. The War Eagles will host Rockledge on Monday at 7. Both schools have delayed their homecoming dances until next weekend.

Instead of overseeing Tuesday’s practice, Eau Gallie head coach Tim Powers spent at least some of the time painting numbers on the field in preparation for what was expected to be a Wednesday game.
With no practices Thursday or Friday before Monday’s game, the time for preparation won’t be unlike what it would have been had the teams played two days earlier than originally scheduled.
“You’ve got to hope your preparation starting from fall camp coming through week 6 has paid off,” he said. “You don’t want to throw stuff at them on Tuesday.”
