KFCA honors top players, coaches in each class

Senior running back Corey Johnson leads Central in rushing with 946 yards and 18 touchdowns.

The Kentucky Football Coaches Association recognized its Players of the Year and Coaches of the Year in all six classes during last weekend’s state finals in Bowling Green.

Central running back Corey Johnson was the only Louisville-area honoree, taking Class 3-A Player of the Year honors.

Here is the complete list of winners:

* Players of the Year: Cooper’s Donte Hendrix (Class 6-A), Pulaski County’s Jake Johnson (5-A), Johnson Central’s Geordan Blanton (4-A), Central’s Corey Johnson (3-A), Danville’s Zack Dampier (2-A), Paintsville’s Kent Phelps (A).

* Coaches of the Year: Ryle’s Mike Engler (6-A), Covington Catholic’s Eddie Eviston (5-A), Franklin-Simpson’s Doug Preston (4-A), Lexington Catholic’s Mark Perry (3-A), Lexington Christian’s Ethan Atchley (2-A), Paintsville’s Joe Chirico (A).
