For the first time in school history, Lakeview has qualified for the playoffs for a fifth year in a row as the Spartans defeated Niles, 20-7, to improve to 5-2 on the year.
Lakeview, which is playing an 8-game schedule this season, needed five wins to get a postseason spot. The Spartans are now going to the playoffs for a fifth straight season.
“This qualifies us for the playoffs, that was our goal,” Lakeview coach Matt Miller said. “This is pretty special. It is five years in a row now, something that hasn’t been done here at Lakeview. Everybody had the goal at the beginning of the year to make the playoffs and I’m proud of these kids for getting it done.”
Lakeview led 20-0 before Niles scored late to end the shutout for the Spartans.
Jay’Vion Settles had 134 yards rushing on 15 carries to lead Lakeview, including a 44-yard touchdown run in the first half. Lakeview quarterback Josiah Kitchen added an 18-yard touchdown pass to Steven Laws to make it 14-0. Kitchen finished the Spartan scoring with a touchdown run from three yards out.
Kitchen added 93 yards rushing from his quarterback position on 15 carries.
Caleb Edwards had his sixth interception of the season for Lakeview, which ties a school record.
