Langford on first UofL-UK game: 'It was crazy'

The past three days have been busy, to say the least, for New Albany star Romeo Langford.

The five-star guard paced the fourth-ranked Bulldogs to a win over No. 2 Carmel on Tuesday and in the process broke the program’s all-time scoring record. On Thursday, Langford dropped 34 points in a win over ranked Evansville Bosse, which included a 15-point third quarter on 4-for-5 shooting from 3.

Sandwiched in between for the junior was a trip to the nearby KFC Yum! Center for his first-ever glimpse of the Louisville-Kentucky rivalry. Langford was impressed by the atmosphere, made possible by a strong finish for the Cardinals. Romeo recalled a memorable play from Louisville’s win: Quentin Snider’s dribble-drive past Kentucky’s Bam Adebayo with less than two minutes left.

“It was crazy. In the first half, (Louisville) got down, you thought it was about to be over,” Langford said. “They were down by like nine, and then they came back. … It really was crazy when Quentin Snider was going off on Bam (Adebayo). That’s when it was really crazy (at the Yum! Center). After the game, there were Cards chants everywhere, even in the hallways walking to your parking garage.”

Both Louisville and Kentucky, along with Duke, Indiana, Kansas, North Carolina, NC State, Purdue, Vanderbilt, UCLA and many others are recruiting Langford, who poured in 40 points in front of Louisville’s Rick Pitino, Kansas’ Bill Self and Purdue’s Matt Painter on Dec. 15 against the nation’s No. 1 team as a part of ESPN’s high school basketball showcase.

The 6-foot-5 Langford is currently rated as the nation’s No. 3 overall prospect in the 2018 class and No. 1 shooting guard, according to the 247Sports’ composite rankings.
