STAUNTON — Robert E. Lee came close to pulling off the upset Tuesday night, but couldn’t quite get it done, falling to unbeaten Turner Ashby 25-13, 14-25, 21-25, 25-15, 9-15. It was the first time TA had gone to five sets this season.
Lee’s Jennifer Williams led the way with 20 kills, 15 digs, three blocks and three aces, while Nellie Garrison added seven kills and three blocks. Alyx Steitz finished with seven kills and five blocks for the Lee Ladies.
“I’m pleased with their play tonight,” Lee coach Jan Williams said of her team. “I’m disappointed in the outcome.”
Meghan Wood finished the night with 15 digs and three aces for Lee, while Lindsey Bosserman had 10 digs in the loss. Amber Johnson recorded 28 assists and Camryn Shull added 15 assists. MacKensie Bowles had five kills and 13 digs for Lee.
Lee won the jayvee match, sweeping TA 25-11, 25-23.
Lee High is at home Thursday against Fort Defiance.
