Local roundup: Pawling wins volleyball invitational

Pawling High School’s volleyball team won its Pawling Invitational tournament, topping Our Lady of Lourdes, 25-15, 25-11, in a best-of-three final.

The format had four teams in each pool. Pawling and Lourdes placed first in pool play with Beacon and Arlington placing second. The top two teams in each pool made up the gold bracket and the bottom two made up the silver bracket. Pawling defeated Arlington and Lourdes defeated Beacon to advance to the final.

Red Hook won the silver bracket.

Pawling’s Jaclyn Smith was named most valuable player of the gold bracket. All-tournament players were Arlington’s Grace Torino, Beacon’s Lauren Schetter, Lourdes’ Jess Dioria and Pawling’s Clara Lombardo.

Silver bracket all-tournament players were Red Hook’s Morgan Corless, Dover’s Sammi Beebe, Webutuck’s Barijana Caldas and Carmel’s Destani Rosa.

Girls soccer

Taylor James had a hat trick as host Arlington topped Mamaroneck 7-1 at home in Freedom Plains.

Stephanie Seefeldt, Michaela Fasolino, Molly Feighan and Annelise Tucci also scored for Arlington.

Roy C. Ketcham 1, John Jay 0 – Rossella Graniero scored on an assist from Natasha Fowler as the visiting Indians shut out the Patriots.

Jasmine Pesante made seven saves for Ketcham. Lexi Lanichbury (four saves) and Vicki Siedlecki (five saves) split time in goal for John Jay.

Boys soccer

Anthony Germano scored on a penalty kick and Jimmy Martin had nine saves, but visiting Arlington lost 2-1 lost to Section 2’s Bethlehem to fall to 2-4.

Hendrick Hudson 2, Our Lady of Lourdes 0 — Brayton Clarke had seven saves, but the Warriors (1-3-1) were shut out at home.

Mamaroneck 3, John Jay 0 — The Patriots (2-2) were shut out late Friday in the James Caswell Memorial Game in Wiccopee.

Field hockey

Alyssa DeMichael scored off a pass from Makena Mohl for host John Jay, which fell 3-1 to Scarsdale. Ali Peritz made nine saves.

Mamaroneck 7, Arlington 0 — Sophia Fister made seven saves, but the Admirals lost in Freedom Plains.

Pleasantville 2, Pawling 1 – Carly McGrath scored for the host Tigers and Kayla Chavarri made three saves, but Pawling fell to 3-3 with the loss.
