It might be safe to say the Our Lady of Lourdes High School football team has found its rhythm.
On Friday, the defending Section 1 Class A champion Warriors stretched their win streak to three in a row, beating host Harrison 45-13.
“We’re really focused on getting better each week,” said head coach Brian Walsh, whose team improved to 4-2. “We don’t talk about winning, we just talk about getting better and if we do that, things will take care of themselves at this point in the season.”
Joe Scaglione led the charge against the Huskies, racking up 173 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Sean McDowell had two touchdowns on 51 rushing yards. Jaheim Jones added a 30-yard touchdown carry and finished with 65 yards on the ground.
Quarterback Nick Gastin also threw a touchdown pass to Cory Mullaly.
Lourdes was just as strong on defense, creating four turnovers. Malik Wright had two sacks, while Ken Rogan had an interception. Mullaly and Nick Scalise each recorded fumble recoveries.
“We played very well on the outside,” Walsh said of his defense. “Our line did a great job. We had a great push up front.”
Lourdes will play in next week’s Section 1 playoff qualifier.
“From here on out it’s about trying to get better,” Walsh said, “and preparing for whoever we got.”
