Luther Campbell, aka Uncle Luke from 2 Live Crew, has resigned as defensive coordinator at Miami Jackson High, he announced Thursday on Instagram. Campbell cited “unforeseen circumstances.”

Campbell made headlines when he joined the staff of reality star Lakatriona Brunson aka Bernice from South Beach Tow. Brunson is the first woman to coach high school football in the state of Florida.

Campbell’s defense forced six turnovers in Jackson’s 12-9 upset of then-No. 2 Booker T Washington two weeks ago. The team lost 36-7 to Cardinal Gibbons (Fort Lauderdale) last week. Jackson plays Bolles (Jacksonville) this week.

Campbell was in his 15th year in coaching and his eighth at the high school level. He previously served as defensive coordinator at three of the top programs in Miami – Central, Northwestern and Norland.

Asked before the season about Brunson, Campbell said, “It’s up to each individual coach to gain respect based on your knowledge of the game and how you conduct yourself,” Campbell said. “And I think she’s done that.”
