Napa, Calif.: Home to America’s finest grapes, wine sellers and … football hazing?
As anachronistic as that last connection may sound, an ongoing police investigation gives the impression that it might be the case. As reported by the Napa Valley Register, Napa High’s football program is under investigation for an incident that reportedly occurred on Saturday.
While details remain scarce, the Register described the situation thus:
“Police said late Tuesday that the alleged assault on Saturday involved teammates holding other teammates down, grabbing them and hitting them.”
Far be it for us to officially characterize something as hazing, but that sure does sound like your textbook variety high school hazing incident. While it’s too early for any charges connected with the situation, the fact that team members are being investigated for assault speaks volumes about the severity of what allegedly happened.
Of course, that begs a number of immediate questions: Did it happen? Did coaches know anything that was going on? If so, what and when? We’ll have to wait and see.
