The visiting New Paltz High School football team defeated Millbrook 37-12 on Friday.
For New Paltz, Jimmy Verney had 12 rushes for 111 yards and three touchdowns. Verney also had a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Passing, he was 5 for 10 for 97 yards.
Other highlights for New Paltz (3-0) included Joey DiMarco (one rush, 44 yards, touchdown, 15 tackles on defense), Christian Burda (four rushes, 40 yards, touchdown), Kenny Verney (13 tackles).
“We played pretty physical and our defense has been excellent,” New Paltz coach Tom Tegeler said, “We’ve just been playing great ‘D’ and our offense has a lot of skilled players.”
For Millbrook, Jacob Wright threw touchdown passes to the returning Delvin Wood and to Eric Manfredi. Connor Latimer and Ethan Martell led Millbrook’s defensive effort.
“They’re a good team, a very good team,” Millbrook coach Sean Keenan said of the Huguenots. “They’re very well coached. They’re very physical and it was a hard-fought game. I was proud of the way the kids fought and played the whole game.”
Keenan added that he was also proud of active United States Marine Jacob Higgins, a former Blazers lineman who ran the team out on to the field before the game.
Millbrook (1-2) visits Dobbs Ferry at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. New Paltz visits John S. Burke Catholic at noon Saturday.
