So far, so good for the Resurrection Christian football team in its move up to Class 2A.
The Cougars moved to 3-0 Saturday with a 24-22 win at No. 8 Platte Valley.
RCS is ranked No. 2 in 2A and all three nonconference wins have come against teams ranked or receiving votes.
RCS jumped out to an early lead Saturday before Platte Valley (1-2) tied the game at 15-15 in the second quarter. RCS scored late in the half to take a 21-15 lead.
Platte Valley struck toward the end of the third to take a 22-21 lead, but an RCS field goal gave the Cougars a two-point lead heading to the fourth quarter.
The Cougars defense was able to make that lead hold up in a scoreless fourth quarter.
FRONTIER ACADEMY 2, LIBERTY COMMON 1 — The Eagles took a lead in the 29th minute when Ryan Zonnefeld took a pass from Michael Hoffinger and put it through the net. Frontier Academy tied it up with a goal in the last two minutes of the half before scoring in the 55th minute to gain the advantage. Liberty Common is now 2-2-1 on the season.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN 15, BOULDER 0 — Dani Young went 4-for-4 with two doubles and drove in four runs to propel the Lobos to a blowout win over Boulder. Sheridan Nichols went 3-for-3 and drove in two more runs as Rocky Mountain (9-3, 3-2 FRL) produced 17 hits as a team.
FOSSIL RIDGE 11, HORIZON 9 — Fossil Ridge (10-1, 4-1 FRL) bounced back from a loss on Thursday to Rocky Mountain with a narrow 11-9 victory over Horizon. Landyn Bruce had a busy day for the SaberCats. Bruce had four hits and drove in four runs at the plate while also pitching seven innings and picking up the win in the circle. Mia Moddelmog contributed four hits.
MOUNTAIN RANGE 4, FORT COLLINS 1 — The Lambkins (6-5, 3-1 FRL) fell to Mountain Range at home. Jennifer Dudash went 2-for-3 and Bailey Deal hit a solo home run to give Fort Collins its only run of the day. Ciana Curran took the loss in the circle despite giving up only one earned run and striking out 11 batters.
WHEAT RIDGE 11, WINDSOR 0 — The Wizards dropped to 7-4 with the home defeat.
EAGLECREST TOURNAMENT — The No. 8 Fossil Ridge volleyball team went 3-1 and earned a second-place finish at a tournament hosted by Eaglecrest. Tyler Lindgren and Riley Zuhn were named to the all-tournament team. The SaberCats beat Cheyenne Mountain, (25-20, 23-25, 25-20, 25-17) Pine Creek (25-22, 25-12, 25-14) and Mountain Vista (25-19, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13). Fossil Ridge’s lone loss of the weekend came to Eaton.
CHERRY CREEK CLASSIC — Rocky Mountain finished second out of 12 teams, going 3-1. The Lobos beat Durango (25-20, 25-17), Prairie View (25-12, 25-22) and Lakewood (19-25, 25-20, 15-13). Rocky Mountain lost the championship match to host Cherry Creek (25-21, 23-25, 15-12).
Amelia Berg had 21 kills, 4 blocks and 19 digs, and Kaylee Kopp had 12 kills against Cherry Creek. Alie McEndaffer had 16 kills, 10 digs total on the day.
Annika Larson had 73 digs on the day and 5 aces. Carly Bowles had 87 assists on the day, with 31 against Cherry Creek.
