Deniz Kalfa ended his season as a state champion.
And he helped the Okemos boys tennis team finish its season third at the Division 2 state tennis finals at Holland.
Kalfa won the No. 4 singles title Saturday while helping the Chiefs finish tied for third with Portage Central with 18 points. Kalfa captured the No. 4 singles title with a win over Midland Dow’s Saketh Kamaraju.
Daniel Gorelik also had success for the Chiefs, finishing as the No. 3 singles runner-up. Okemos also had its No. 1 doubles team of Zal Chinoy and Karthik Kolisetty reach the semifinal in its successful weekend.
East Lansing finished 10th with a score of eight. The Trojans were led by their No. 2 (Caleb Hoekstra, Peyton Brogan) and No. 3 doubles (Caleb Ring, Connor Foley) tandems, who each fell in the semifinals.
DIVISION 4: Williamston’s Oliver Weaver finished as the No. 1 singles champion, capturing the title with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian’s Austin Koenes in the final. Weaver helped the Hornets finish fifth as a team with a score of 15.
Lansing Catholic totaled seven points at the finals and was led by Vince Orlando, who advanced to the No. 1 singles semifinals before falling to Weaver in three sets.
DIVISION 3: Haslett paced Lansing area teams by scoring seven points in the state finals. The Vikings were led by their No. 1 doubles tandem of Nick Radecki and Gokul Murali, who reached the semifinals.
