Okla. LB Sam Rycroft records school record 25 tackles in loss

Some defensive players aim for 25 tackles in a season. Sam Rycroft shoots for that many in a single game.

A star linebacker for Oklahoma’s Edmond North, Rycroft racked up an incredible 25 tackles in a 21-7 loss to Westmoore. The monster night put Rycroft one stop in front of the school’s previous record-holder, Zach Paty, which dated back to 2006.

You can see video highlights of Rycroft’s masterful defensive performance directly below.

For those who might be skeptical of a 25 tackle performance, Edmond North coach Scott Burger claims that the entire Edmond North coaching staff went over game film to verify the total, and all confirmed that Rycoft had made that many stops.

“They came up with the same thing,” Burger told the Oklahoman. “Twenty-five is a lot. Fifteen’s a lot. I know a lot of people will look at it and go, ‘Oh, 25.’ We don’t give them a tackle if they run and fall on the pile.”
