Pat Mitchell provided a 35-yard touchdown run, but the Pine Plains football team lost 49-7 to visiting James I. O’Neill High School on Friday.
“O’Neill is a force to be reckoned with in Section 9,” Pine Plains coach Rob Scott said. “They looked really, really good.”
But, so did Mitchell.
He had 100 yards on 15 carries. Mitchell scored his touchdown early in the fourth quarter. On defense, teammate Calab McCaul made 11 tackles.
Quarterback Matt Beam stood under center for the Bombers, and Scott said he did a good job.
“We’ve had problems throwing the ball up until this game,” Scott said. “We tried someone new. Matt stood in the pocket and was a good leader. He threw the ball downfield.”
Pine Plains (0-3) hosts Spackenkill at 7 p.m. Friday.
“We’re becoming comfortable and we anticipate a good game,” Scott said of his team’s next game.
