Enka has the bare minimum number of golfers (three) needed for a team score in high school competition.
It obviously doesn’t make the Sugar Jets any more vulnerable to defeat.
Seniors Kaitlinn Stewart and Lauren Elliott along with freshman Jasmine Donaghue won all eight of their regular-season matches this fall. Hopes are high that it will carry over into Monday’s 3-A Western Regional tournament at the Etowah Valley Golf Club & Lodge.
“We’ve kind of slid under the radar over the years,” Enka coach Bill Stewart said.
“This is the fourth or fifth time in a row that we’ve won (a Mountain Athletic Conference championship). With Kaitlinn being a senior, this is most likely my last one. I’m real proud of our girls. We just played Etowah on Monday for the conference tournament and I think if we can shoot the same score (286), we should qualify for state.”
Individually, the nine-hole scoring averages for the Sugar Jets are as follows – Kaitlinn Stewart (45.2), Donaghue (47.3) and Elliott (47.9).
