Portland, Lansing Catholic rise in state football poll

Portland and Lansing Catholic have climbed in the latest Associated Press high school football state rankings ahead of the final week of the regular season.

CAAC White champion Portland has jumped to No. 3 and Lansing Catholic has moved up to No. 6 in Division 5 in this week’s state poll.

The Raiders, who can complete a second straight perfect regular season with a win Friday, and Cougars are among eight teams from the Lansing area that appear in the latest rankings. Portland and Lansing Catholic are among three teams from mid-Michigan in the top 10 in Division 5.

Ithaca, which is a win away from another perfect regular season, dropped to No. 2 in Division 5 this week after spending a majority of the fall in the top spot.

Ithaca and Pewamo-Westphalia are the highest-ranked teams in the Lansing area entering the┬áregular season’s final week. Pewamo-Westphalia is No. 2 in Division 7.

DeWitt is No. 6 in Division 3, Alma is No. 7 in Division 4, Lakewood is No. 9 in Division 4 and Laingsburg is No. 9 in Division 6 to round out the other mid-Michigan teams in this week’s poll.
